Global Functions Technology:
Passing the relay baton seamlessly
Passing the relay baton seamlessly
RBC’s Global Functions Technology (GFT) team delivers innovative IT solutions for functional teams across RBC. These include Finance, Human Resources, Risk, Audit, Legal and Compliance, in addition to Financial Crime, Fraud Technology, and social collaboration.
GFT’s Vancouver team – which currently has 41 people and is growing with several open roles – works at the intersection of innovation, opportunity and impact: “We’re not just witnessing the future of banking technology, we’re actively creating it,” says Kay-Lynn Foo, senior manager of Compliance Technology Delivery at RBC.
“Knowing that our work makes such a tangible difference across RBC is incredibly rewarding.”
The Vancouver Hub’s west coast location means RBC can provide essential cross-time-zone collaboration on ongoing projects, which keeps projects moving forward without skipping a beat. “It’s like having a relay race team where we’re always passing the baton seamlessly,” adds Kay-Lynn.
Enterprise Performance Management (EPM) analysts working at the Hub agree that the Vancouver team is an integral part of the bank’s broader initiatives and having everyone under the same roof is an added bonus:
“Having the complete team in the same location allows for more direct communication and faster decision-making,” says Albert Zhu, EPM Analyst, RBC Global Functions Technology. “The set-up allows for closer collaboration, enhancing productivity and efficiency in our projects.”
The teams also know that working in Vancouver allows them to work on meaningful projects and bring a new perspective to the bank’s ongoing work while enjoying the perks of living in one of the world’s most beautiful cities. They also spend time together outside the office, building stronger team bonds professionally and personally.
Vancouver employees also retain a strong connection with their colleagues in the Toronto head office, thanks to virtual meetups, collaborative projects with teams across the country, and a strong emphasis on inclusive communication. According to Kay-Lynn:
“It’s not just about the tech – it’s also about growth. RBC invests heavily in its people through mentorship programs, training opportunities, and leadership development initiatives. You’ll never feel bored here, there’s always something new to learn or explore.”
--The Vancouver Hub enables GFT to provide ongoing support to its RBC stakeholders, facilitate real-time collaboration while providing the opportunity to contribute new ideas, establish best practices while allowing for continuous learning and growth opportunities for its teams.
