Milos Stojadinovic: Driving cybersecurity innovation as RBC’s newest Fellow

In addition to skilled defenders and threat hunters, today’s threat landscape requires visionary leaders who can anticipate threats, drive enterprise-wide security innovation and build resilience across the entire business. It is for those exact reasons that we are excited to welcome and celebrate the appointment of Milos Stojadinovic as RBC Fellow, Cyber Security.

As the highest form of recognition for technical leaders at RBC, our Fellows are experts who have demonstrated exceptional technical expertise, organizational influence and strategic business impact in areas of cutting-edge technology that are critical to our business strategy. They are distinguished by their ability to drive innovation, develop breakthrough approaches to emerging technologies and deliver first-of-their-kind solutions that create measurable business value. In doing so, they foster the next generation of technical talent and transformation through their leadership and mentorship.

Since joining RBC in 2017, Milos has applied his deep expertise and passion for cybersecurity to building the Advanced Threat Operations Program, establishing industry-leading capabilities in adversarial testing, threat hunting, threat research and threat modelling.
He has been a member of the Technical Distinction Program since 2021 and through it has established himself as a thought leader and innovator. He has spoken at international conferences, participated in industry thinktanks, published research and articles that have garnered more than 20,000 views, mentored dozens of RBC employees and students and driven transformational security capabilities, including digital crime disruption technologies that have significantly reduced annual fraud losses.

A conversation with Milos Stojadinovic

Why does having a Fellow in cybersecurity matter now?

Today’s threat landscape requires more than skilled defenders; it requires visionary leaders who can anticipate threats, drive enterprise-wide security innovation and build resilience across the entire business. The Fellow role is established as part of RBC’s Technical Career Journey in an area of cutting-edge technology critical to our business strategy where RBC needs technical thought leadership and expertise. Having a Fellow in cybersecurity signals that RBC values technical excellence as something people can strive toward, and it gives the organization a voice on a global stage to advocate and influence the direction of the field. That influence, from a technology perspective, leads to better outcomes for RBC internally and externally, and ultimately for our clients.

How has the cybersecurity landscape evolved during your tenure here?

When I joined RBC nearly a decade ago, I was brought in to build the Adversary Emulation (Red Team) capability from a whiteboard idea. At the time, that meant starting from scratch to help leadership understand breach realities by continuously recalibrating their view of how systems worked and how they could be broken. The threat landscape has only grown more sophisticated since. Defenders and threat hunters are essential, but today’s environment demands the ability to anticipate threats before they materialize. Over the years I’ve matured our threat hunting and threat modelling capabilities, formalized an applied Security Research team that focuses on disrupting digital crime and built mechanisms to empirically and continuously assess our resilience to attack. The shift has been from reactive defence to anticipating, emulating and getting ahead of emerging threats.

How do you see this Fellow role evolving or expanding your impact from other senior technical positions?

Earlier in my career, I measured success by my individual contributions — the impact I made, the insights I shared, the improvements I drove. Those still matter to me, but increasingly I measure success by the environment I create for my team: the roles I enable them to fill and the strategy I set for them to build capabilities that materially impact our coworkers and clients. As a Fellow, I have the flexibility to balance both, working directly on hard problems while creating a place where talented people want to do their best work. It expands the scope from a department or organization to an industry-wide influence, advocating on behalf of RBC and helping guide the strategic direction of cybersecurity.

What excites you most about the future of your field?

What excites me is the combination of hard technical problems and the people solving them. The applied research that disrupts digital crime, the mechanisms that empirically test our resilience and the next generation of talent coming up behind me — that’s where the momentum is. Cybersecurity is a field where curiosity and persistence compound: every problem you solve reveals the next one, and the people you bring along make the work go further than anything you could do alone.

Congratulations to Milos Stojadinovic on his appointment as RBC Fellow, Cyber Security.
